Mike Thompson triumphs at Castle Eden

Our return to Castle Eden was on a dry and, thankfully, cooler day - ideal conditions for some good golf. And, indeed, the members that completed the course did so with some high scores - the average was 31 points!

But none of us could match Mike Thompson's performance, with 41 points being 5 points more than Mike Park and Lance Porter in second and third place. This is Mike T's first HGS win, and his round included an eagle on one of the par 5s. Congratulations, Mike.

There were also 10 birdies scored (the eagle counting as two) which doubled the total number scored in the first two rounds.

Brian Williams leads the President's Cup with 90 points, followed closely by Andy Arthur, Mark Wray and Richard Scott within 3 points. Ben Wilson leads the Birdies Competition with 5, two ahead of Brian Williams.

An enjoyable day, worth the trip up to County Durham, and many thanks to Mark Wray for organising the day.
