Competitive HGS-Administered Handicaps (CHAHs)
IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR THE START OF 2026 SEASON:
This 'CHAH' service was set up when the new World Handicap System was introduced in November 2020 in order to allow HGS members who are not members of golf clubs to have an active and accurate handicap index to use in HGS events.
A spreadsheet was set up using the same calculations as in the official WHS method, (with any specific agreed differences mentioned in the table shown below). It does, however, mean that the spreadsheet needs to be manually updated after each round played by a 'CHAH member'.
It has worked well over the early years of the new handicap system but, since 2020, England Golf has introduced the concept of 'iGolf' which is specifically designed to allow golfers who do not have a home club to have an active England Golf-approved Handicap Index. There is a small annuall fee to join iGolf and we now have several HGS members who have joined it and find it works well. It would therefore make sense for any HGS members who are not members of a club to follow this official route as we move forward.
It is therefore intended that the use of the manual CHAH spreadsheet method will cease at the end of the 2026 season, so please will members with a CHAH handicap move to iGolf by the end of the year in order to be able to compete for prizes in future HGS events.
If you need it, advice on setting up the iGolf process is available from current iGolf members (or Peter Bollands).
The latest CHAH Handicap Indexes (last updated 25th April 2026) are:
| HGS MEMBERS WITHOUT WHS HANDICAP INDEX | CHAH Handicap Index | Basis of Calculation |
| Morton, Phil | 35.5 | 8 cards; average of lowest 2 |
| Priest, Darren | 15.7 | 20 cards; average of lowest 8 |
| Pulleyn, Rob | 30.2 | Average of previous HGS playing handicap & 1 card |
| Ward, Mike | 12.2 | HI on leaving Forest Park |
| Weightman, Alister | 28.0 | 5 cards; lowest 1 (agreed max 28.0) |
